Cleaning house.
We are in the home stretch of our time here in Turkmenistan, which is to put it bluntly, awesome. So awesome in fact, that I want to do a little happy dance every time I think about it. As you can expect, we have been preparing for our departure. This involves me going through our belongings and tossing the things we don't want or need before people come by to inventory our stuff for the movers. That is ostensibly, what I have been doing for the past month. Yet somehow this place still looks like I haven't tossed anything out.
Which isn't true- I have about five trash bags filled with shredded papers, and two bags of clothes destined for the trash. There are small electronics I still need to toss (broken VCR, broken vacuum sealer- I see you) as well, but there's still more tossing to do. All our remaining consumables (save for the spices and select dry goods) will not be coming with us. The car supplies (oil) won't be going with us. Neither will the remaining bags of kitty litter- whatever is left by the time we're set to leave will stay. Ah, the joys of having to meet but not exceed a specific weight limit!
You would think that needing to eliminate excess weight would preclude us from purchasing new things. Sadly, you would be wrong. Last weekend we went to the giant bazaar outside of town, New Talkuchka (it has an actual name, but no one uses it). We managed to leave the place with two felt camel rugs, a rug hanging for a door frame, and baubles.
The door hanging is at least 20 lbs in weight, and the felt rugs are probably about the same 20 lbs combined. So that is another 40 pounds that has to come out of somewhere. And we still have a final carpet to buy, one of the local vendors is having a carpet made for us That carpet will likely be between 20-40 lbs.
So, I think our shopping days at this point are over unless we see something so neat, we have to pick it up. Personally, I think we've managed to snap up everything we've seen and liked.
